Alan McKinnon is a professor of logistics in Kühne Logistics University, Hamburg, and professor emeritus at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He has been researching and teaching in freight transport and logistics for 42 years, has published widely in journals and has written books on many different aspects of the subject. Much of his research has focused on ways of reducing the environmental impact of logistics. He has been an advisor to several governments, parliamentary committees and international organizations, including the International Transport Forum/OECD, the World Bank, the European Commission, the World Economic Forum and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
